How to use a ribbon to decorate a flower vase

  1. Pick a ribbon that goes with the vase and your bouquet or cut flowers. If the flowers are all the same colour, use a patterned ribbon in that hue. Consider a solid-coloured ribbon if your arrangement is vibrant in colour and texture. Choose a ribbon width that corresponds to the vase’s dimensions. Choose a narrower ribbon if your vase is delicate. Choose a wider ribbon if the vase is substantial. If your flowers were delivered in a bouquet or hand-tied arrangement, you may be able to reuse the ribbon that was used on the arrangement — even if the type of ribbon isn’t appropriate, the colour will most likely be an excellent source of inspiration.
  2. Use a matching ribbon to add a splash of colour or texture. Use a luxurious, velvet ribbon to enhance a richly coloured fall or winter bouquet.
  3. Leave plenty of space between your ribbon. Experiment with winding the ribbon around the vase several times to determine whether you want a huge or small bow. To determine the desired length, perform a test run while the ribbon is still on the reel. For the smoothest edge, cut the ribbon end on a diagonal line.
  4. Tie the ribbon around the vase’s neck and tie a small bow. If you have two ribbons cut, stack them so that the thinner ribbon is on top of the thicker ribbon. Loop them together around the vase and knot them in a bow as if they were a single ribbon.
  5. The tail length can be adjusted as needed. Consider making the tails of two ribbons noticeably different lengths. If you like, you can also adjust the shape of the tails. To make a banner, for example, trim the tail of a wide, flat ribbon into a V shape.
  • Place your scissors at the bottom corner of 1 ribbon tail to cut a V-shape. Snip up and diagonally until you reach the centre of the ribbon. To produce the V, place your scissors on the opposite tail corner and make an identical cut toward the centre of the ribbon on that side.
